FATHER OF OLYMPIC GOLD MEDAL SOFTBALL PITCHER AND INVENTOR OF THE PITCHING WINDMILL TO HOST CLINICS IN CENTRAL NEW YORK

Doug Finch to speak at CNS High School on Friday, April 8

Cicero, New York (April 4, 2011) – The father of champion softball icon Jennie Finch will visit Central New York for a weekend of instruction, presentations and hands-on clinics for local girls looking to enhance their softball skills. CNY Fastpitch and former Seton Hall Pirates pitcher (2006-09) and NYS High School Class AA Champion (2004) Kim Schweitzer will bring Doug Finch, the man behind the star-studded Olympic gold medal pitcher, to town April 8-10.

Join Doug Finch on Friday, April 8 from 6-9 p.m. at the Cicero-North Syracuse High School as he makes a live presentation is heavily focused pitching, but will also give attention to hitting, throwing and other important softball skills. This session is open to individuals/families, teams and entire youth softball organizations. Registration is $75 for individuals/families, $150 per team or $300 for an entire youth softball organization to attend. Individuals/families that register prior to April 8 pay only $50.

In addition to the Friday night session, Finch will also instruct eight local pitchers in a hands-on clinic over the course of the weekend. Space for this portion of Finch’s visit are currently filled, however a waiting list in the event of a cancellation is now being taken.

Finch, who has been instructing softball players for more than 15 years, is responsible for the invention of the Finch Windmill in the late 1980s. He is the inventor, developer and marketer of the Finch Windmill, the ultimate pitching, throwing and shoulder exercise machine. The Finch Windmill has helped to raise the performance level of thousands of athletes in a number of different sports since its introduction. The Finch Windmill is a shoulder exercise machine highly recommended by many doctors and coaches at all levels of play for performance, injury prevention, and shoulder rehabilitation. The instrument is believed to have helped Jennie Finch achieve her strong pitching abilities, which led to her champion status.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to bring a softball instructor with such a rich background in the sport to our area in an effort to advance the local girls who look to excel in all aspects of the sport,” said Kim Schweitzer, organizer of the clinics. “The Finch name will forever be tied to the game of softball.”

Schweitzer is best known locally for leading the CNS Northstars to a NYS Championship in 2004, as well as a Section III title in 2005. She was a 3-time All-CNY 1st Team All Star, 4-time All-State Pitcher, 4-time All-League 1st Team All Star and 2004 All-CNY Pitcher of the Year. She would go on to pitch at Seton Hall, leading the Pirates in freshman wins during the 2006 season. Schweitzer holds additional spots in the Seton Hall record books including overall appearances (2nd), innings pitched (4th), wins (5th) and strikeouts (7th) to name a few. Since graduating, Schweitzer has returned to Central New York’s softball scene as a personal instructor and was named Assistant Coach for the CNS Northstars Varsity team alongside her former coach Kerry Bennett. She was married this past October and resides in Cicero with her husband, Scott Aupperle.
